Lack of greater concern about Iranian President's latest statements

The Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad attacked the UN at the FAO's Rome summit on Tuesday (3rd of June) and called for the creation of a new ''independent organism with wide powers'' to whom ''all the countries of the world must be answerable'' as a means of confronting the world food crisis. Ahmadinejad also hit out at the UN's decision-making bodies, which he said were controlled by countries ''who only think about their own interests'' in order to ''carry out their wicked policies,'' adding that the major powers ''impose their decisions on the Security Council''.In the context of the FAO Summit he also stated that Israel ''will soon be eliminated from the geographical map'' and that the ''satanic power'' of the United States would be ''wiped out''.

''The European people have suffered the most damage from the Zionists, and now both the political and economic costs of this false regime rest on Europe's shoulders,'' he told reporters at Rome's Ciampino airport. These statements in the mouth of the President of Iran are unacceptable! The lack of strong reaction from “democrats” gives the impression that an undemocratic country can impose its will and its view upon the international community.  EFI believe that the language used by Ahmadinejad over the non- recognition of Israel, a member-state of the United Nations, and his negation of the suffering of a people, stands against history and all the human rights values. EFI call upon the UN, the European Union as well as the Member States to vigorously condemn the statements of Ahmadinejad.
