EFI is deeply saddened by the death of Bronislaw Geremek — a key figure in the Solidarity trade union that helped topple communism and later became Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. Mr. Geremek had been serving as a member of European Parliament since being elected in 2004. We will all remember Bronislaw Geremek as an example of free spirit, a courageous man who will undoubtedly be recalled as one of the most powerful symbols of liberation against oppression.
