About EFI

European Friends of Israel ("EFI") is a political initiative which aims to improve the overall relationship between the European Union and Israel.

EFI brings together every parliamentary national-Israel friendship group from the EU’s 28 member-states and a new Israel friendship group within the European Parliament.

EFI has an initial membership of some 1,000 members of parliament from all of Europe’s mainstream political parties, making it one of the largest pan European parliamentary groups of its kind.

The principal purpose behind the creation of EFI is political: Israel needs and deserves a better recognition of the close cultural and democratic bonds that it shares with the EU, to underpin greater EU support for the continuing challenges it faces over the coming years.

But EFI can equally improve and help foster an environment in which Israel’s commercial interests with Europe are enhanced.

EFI's Mission

To forge a stronger political relationship and a deeper understanding between Europe and Israel.

EFI’S goals

·       Identify the political issues in Europe which are vital to Israel.

·       Encourage and cultivate an environment in which Israel’s political and commercial interests are enhanced.

·       Define and promote the agenda of Israel’s supporters

·       Expand and reinforce European support of Israel

·       Provide decision-makers and those who influence public opinion with well-researched and balanced information about the  historical and geo-political realities of the Middle East.

·       Unite all Israel Friendship Groups existing in the Parliaments of the EU’s 28 member states and to establish a connection between them.

·       Establish channels of communication within the EU political process in which those who share our goals can effectively express their support.

EFI’s uniqueness

At the core of EFI’s work is its belief that Israel needs and deserves a better recognition of the close cultural and democratic bonds that its shares with the EU, with the aim of underpinning greater EU support for the continuing challenges it may face over the coming years. But EFI can equally improve and help foster an environment in which Israel’s commercial interests are enhanced. Our aim is to increase the number of Europeans who share this belief and encourage them to take individual political action.

EFI will bring together every parliamentary national-Israel friendship group from the EU 28 Member States, together with a new Israel friendship group within the European Parliament. It is estimated that EFI will have an initial membership of some 1,000 Members of Parliament from all of Europe’s mainstream political parties, making it one of the largest pan-European parliamentary groups of its kind.

EFI is comprised of Members of the European Parliament and Members of National Parliaments from across Europe who are willing to improve understanding between Europe and Israel and help the Parliamentarians in performing their job.

The Steering Committee of EFI Europe includes all the chairmen of the main Parliamentarian Friendship associations in Europe. The Steering Committee of EFI at the European Parliament includes Members of the European Parliament who have remarkable experience on high level of diplomacy and who recognize the need to launch this organization.

Political Action

EFI consistently works across the EU and member states to monitor all legislation that impacts on Israel and lends its support to new initiatives that will help Israel to exist within safe and secure borders.
